Developing Malaysian Business Event Professionals

The Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau and the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to Co-organise IAPCO EDGE Seminar in August
PUTRAJAYA – 12 August 2021: The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) is proud to be the ‘venue of choice’ to host the three-day IAPCO EDGE Seminar virtually from 25 to 27 August 2021. Co-organised by the Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) and the Centre, with support from the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO), the seminar is designed for meetings and events professionals to advance to international standards through knowledge transfer and skills development. The programme is a mix of lectures and practical workshops.

The IAPCO EDGE Seminar is the perfect platform for Malaysian business events professionals to further enhance their skill set and elevate the overall knowledge and expertise of Malaysia’s supply chain to match the industry’s international requirements and demands. Featuring international business events industry leaders, with real-life experiences and case studies to share, the seminar will help local meeting and event professionals become more competitive when bidding for international events.

Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani, Chief Executive Officer of MyCEB, added, “One of our primary missions is to help strengthen and showcase Malaysia’s attractive business events proposition to the world. This is why we remain extremely commited to engaging with local industry players to help develop and empower them to be on par with, if not surpass, our regional and international counterparts. This is a great opportunity and platform for our industry professionals to enrich their knowledge and skill set to help us grow our industry’s capabilities together.”

Alan Pryor, the Centre’s General Manager shared, “We are honored to be entrusted with hosting this high-profile educational event and to once again have the opportunity to collaborate with MyCEB to advance professional standards and skills of the local supply chain. Though business events sustained a huge hit due to the pandemic it has also provided the time for everyone to take a step back and not only plan for the future, but focus on upskilling, learning and development to ensure we are ready for a bigger and better comeback.”

Martin Boyle, Chief Execcutive Officer (CEO), IAPCO shared that, “The MyCEB/KLCC partnership with IAPCO was designed specifically for and with Malaysian meeting professionals in mind. It is a truly unique collaborative initiative applying a multi-level approach to understanding the needs in the marketplace and designing a long-term programme that builds upon existing knowledge and skillsets whilst developing enhanced learning and new skills all of which will provide Malaysia with a competitive advantage moving forward. In addition, it has facilitated a direct connection between Malaysian meeting professionals and industry stakeholders with the IAPCO community. I am honoured that our three organisations have come together on such an important and valuable partnership and I congratulate all of the participants that have taken part.

The IAPCO EDGE Seminar is slated to provide immensely valuable industry insights for business event players, including Professional Conference Organisers, Meeting Planners, Associations, Venues and others. A wide range of topics will be discussed, such as current trends and state of the industry, conference marketing in a changing world, successful project management, finance and budgeting and many more.

Dato’ Sri Abdul Khani continued, “Ultimately, we hope to create a marketplace of professionals with the right skills to increase bid wins and support the growth of Malaysia’s business events industry, which contributes in many ways, both economically and in the knowledge and expertise that are gained by the country through the successful hosting of these events.”

Pryor concluded, “Our strong and long-standing partnership with MyCEB has enabled us to contribute in advancing Malaysia’s business events supply chain, to enhance our destination proposition and strengthen the country’s position internationally. The Centre will continue to build on our commitment towards industry advocacy and engagement initiatives to upskill and develop the capacity of our national industry.”

The IAPCO EDGE Seminar is the latest initiative in the tri-partite collaboration between MyCEB, the Centre and IAPCO. This follows the IAPCO Continued Professional Development programme, as part of Malaysia Business Events Week (MBEW) in August 2020 and the launch of the unique online education platform, IAPCO WebEDGE in May 2020.
